Sorbic acid is known in the cosmetics world as a preservative. It can be made naturally and when it is, it comes from mountain ash berries. Sorbic acid can also be made synthetically. It generally comes in a crystalline powder and this is the way that companies put it into the other ingredients in their products. Sorbic acid is used in skin care products because it can help to kill organisms that can get into labs. It can also help these products from spoiling before their shelf life. All in all, sorbic acid is not hazardous at all to your skin and it is good to have it in products to keep out unwanted organisms.
